Over the past 180 days of this class, I have been bombarded with intellectual teaching by the great Ms. Heideman. I have completed many paintings and drawings, and in each one I attempted to make them better than the last. Here are some of the adventures i undertook this semester.
My most common element is contrast, it appears in most of my work, especially that of the second semester. the four pieces that show contrast the most are my faces painting, the bright landscape, the dull landscape, and the choice project, which i did a motivational poster. The shading and use of contrasting colors shows the element of contrast the most in these paintings to make them pop.
This year I learned many different art and design elements, but the ones that really stuck out were value and proportion. I used value in my 2 point perspective hallway drawing, using thicker lines where things were closer and having them get thinner and lighter as they got further away. I used proportion the most in the landscape paintings, especially to show the different scale between the trees or other close up objects compared to the mountains in the background.
The elements I use display the feeling of peace and calmness, or tranquility, or at least that was the mood that i was attempting to convey. I tried to make every brush stroke just a small part of the overall picture, in which I really wanted the observer to feel small and at peace. Since most of my work was based on things found outside or in nature, I wanted the onlookers to get the sense that they were in a very large world, and I wanted them to let go and just relax and be calm among the overwhelming beauty of nature.
This year has been a blast of fun and knowledge, I will never forget the fun times and learning of new techniques that took place in the art room this year.
